D4E is a free mailing list on Dutch for English speakers - for those
interested in learning Dutch or struggling with the language.
History of the D4E list
Actually this list is a spin-off of another list: the Dutchlist on
midwifery. As the keepers of that list kept receiving requests to
be added but always had to disappoint English speaking peopleas the
midwifery list is in Dutch, they created the D4E list.
The first moderator of D4E was Patrick Hublou, a Belgian midwife.
Because Patrick went to stay abroad for quite a while, he handed this
job over (on oktober 1st 1995) to Marcel Heerink (the author of Taalthuis),
who was at that time making a living out of teaching Dutch.
At february 5th of 1997 the list became automated by Artnet, and
not moderated anymore. About two years later, the list became part
of the 'Onelist' network
What it offers
What the list offers, depends on the needs of the subscribers. If
you become one of them, you can use it for whatever you think might
help you on learning Dutch: to search for advice on good study books,
to find solutions to your grammar problems, to get feed-back on that
Dutch letter you wrote before sending it or to know what is stated
exactly in a Dutch letter you received.
- articles on classical problematic features (de/het, sentence
constructions, er, ...),
- exercises to train things that appear hard to learn,
- updated lists on Dutch language resources on Internet,
- reviews on Dutch language learning materials and some information
on how to order them.
